I am considering purchasing a Gemini recorder. The only question I have is about the SSDs. Are new Convergent Design SSDs backward compatible with this recorder? Could I use a third party drive? I see that BHPhoto has the chassis for these drives available for sale separately. Also, I know that it records DPX, but can it record to any other codec?

I do realize that this is limited to HD res only, but it will be for a F3 and it is unused old stock  for very cheap, so why not. My only concern is the media.

I'm pretty sure it's DPX (or raw) only. From memory, I think there was mention of adding DNxHD eventually, but I don't think that ever happened.

Also, I'm 97% sure the Gemini only works with it's proprietary media. So I'd definitely contact CD directly to ask them whether their current drives are backwards compatible.
