Hi all
I am going to shoot a horror film with 5D mark iii & CP 2 lenses.
Want to know about the IR sensitivity of mark iii sensor.
Do I need IR filter while shooting day exterior? Which one is recomended
between Tiffen and Schneider optics?

Posted 18 August 2014 - 07:30 AM Do you mean UV? A conventional sensor doesn't have IR sensitivity.

Posted 18 August 2014 - 10:49 AM What do you mean Mark? Sensitivity to IR pollution is a common problem with sensors, which shows up mainly when you use heavy ND filters that don't have extra IR filtering.
All sensors have IR filtering but it's often not strong enough which is why this problem shows up with heavy ND filtering, where so much visible light is cut that a larger portion of the light that passes through is in the infrared range.
As for the Canon 5D Mk.III, I don't know its particular quirks in terms of which IRND combo filters work best. Have you tried to Google this? There must be a Canon 5D filmmakers forum out there somewhere...

Art Adams shows that the Canon C300 is sensitive to far red, not infrared: http://provideocoali...non_c300_and_ir

Posted 18 August 2014 - 12:00 PM Sorry David, I'm very much expired, evidently, and the OP was talking about a still camera which is about as far as I get these days. It didn't happen with film.
