Hi all,

This is the scenario ....

A low budget production run on own salary and a generous family member.

Major portion of the film entails interviews - steady shots with two cam set up on stands. Remaining portions of the film, handheld montage or insert shots.

The director is also the DOP on this project. He was looking into art production and hiring equipments. He hired a person for operating the camera.

A and B cam DSLRs on stands required to meet nil operational requirements except  for adjusting focus and exposure. All the shots, angle and lights were physically set up and supervised by the DOP.

Handheld shots were mostly operated by the person hired. But it turns out that the DOP shot some of them too owing to inappropriate frame composition.

How may one credit with regards to Camera Operators on this film ?

appreciate your time

:)

Camera operator(s) would be the appropriate credit for this, DP or even directors sometimes operate on some shots on films, but they don't usually get a credit for operating on a few shots.

Hey thanks for the reply Brian.

This production crew consists of only two members. So you are saying both of them should be credited for operations? Sorry this is my first project man. Wanna do things right.

I have also seen DOP's do director's job and never get credited for it. Isn't that... not right ? Why are roles so ambiguous in practice?

Note you need to use your full real name in this forum. You should contact Tim Tyler, the site owner to  correct your profile.

It's because the real world doesn't divide in such a simple way. If the crew members were employed as camera operators that's how they should be credited, doing the odd handheld shot fits into the DPs job description, so doesn't require an additional credit..However, if he was also the Steadicam operator, that could be possibly considered for say "DP and Steadicam Operator" credit, to separate a specialist skill, rather than handheld shots.,
