In Topic: Silk White Poly to diffuse direct sunlight?

It's useful to carry a second level of diffusion in case you don't want to lose as much brightness -- for example, a 1/4 Grid or 1/2 Soft Frost is useful for just taking a little of the harshness off without making it look like the actor stepped in the shade compared to a sunlit background.

I assume if you are shooting in 16mm that you'll do a digital finish, you're not going to distribute it in a 16mm print.  So to some degree, contrast and saturation can be manipulated in post to create the feeling of the 16mm reversal used on those movies.  But you need to light with the idea that you're going to crush your shadows down heavily.  Pushing will also add some contrast and grain that might help.  Finding some older 16mm lenses too.  But a lot of the look of those older movies is the lighting style.

It could be argued that the "native" ISO of an Alexa is 400 but ARRI recommends 800 as the optimal compromise between noise and highlight retention.

I think that a lot of digital stills cameras have a low native ISO but such minimal noise that higher ISO's look fine.

For 24 fps / 180 you’d pick whatever is closest to 1/48.

Depends on how drafty the space is after the initial haze but likely youll have to pump some in regularly between takes, so someone has to be in charge of that.
