American Cinematographer started in 1920. There are a lot of back numbers on archive.org

The same archive site has other magazines from that era more aimed at the amateur home movie maker, but still discussing cinematography and editing:

https://archive.org/...h?q=home movies

https://archive.org/...ome movie maker

There's a lot of home movie material in the 30s and 40s ACs. I don't know when it stopped.

Great to see the film of the Queen's wedding advertised in that 1948 issue.
