There's an interesting article on the Schoeps Microphone site (www.schoeps.de) about a guy who recently hiked around Nepal and Tibet with a Nagra V and a couple of Schoeps mics that he was using to record stereo sound in M/S form (cardiod and bi-directional).

Does anyone have experience using Schoeps mics on a film shoot where compactness is an issue, either to record mono or stereo? Leaving aside the new Schoeps shotgun mic, how will Schoeps mics perform if you want to use them on a documentary shoot and want the mic out of the camera frame?

One other question. Is there a site, in addition to this one, where there is a good forum on sound recording in relation to film?

Thanks.

Most motion picture sound people (production and post) check into the r.a.m.p.s newsgroup: <rec.arts.movies.production.sound>
Some excellent threads, and interesting folks. Archived at google groups, I think . . .

the schoeps compacts will work well indoors and in quiet outdoors especially if close enough. otherwise one could use a short shotgun mic.

nepal and tibet may have been very quiet.
