HD Footage to DVD

I'm a film student fairly new to the HD world. Is it possible to burn the footage captured from a HD camera to a normal DVD disc???

Sure, if it's the data files you're referring to, you could put anything you wanted on a DVD for storage. As for making a "video" DVD out of it, yes and no. You'll need to downconvert it to Standard Definition and then author your disc in order to play it on current set-top DVD players. Until the whole Blu-Ray/HD-DVD thing gets widely implemented on the consumer level, few would be able to watch it at home otherwise. A lot of theatrical films you see today, they create an HD master for broadcast or distribution to future-proof it (or maybe it was even produced that way), and then downconvert an MPEG-2 version for the current home DVD market.
