Hey guys
I need a really good boom pole. I have been using a cheap mic stand for a pole and now have the money for something high quality. I only have a mic so I think I will need a holder for the sennheiser 67 mic also. I only want the best. I prefer it to not be very long when in travel form. I?m used to about 3 feet compact. So anything smaller would be awesome. I think most are. What do you guys recommend for purchase for me?

The smallest I know of is the VDB Babypole, which at 16" collapsed is small enough to fit in a Cinebags or a large backpack. The internal cable model sells for $429, which is far less than I paid for a K-Tek K81.

I bought a Gitzo boom pole for only about $200 that I'm pretty happy with. Good price for strong carbon fiber and it extends to 12', which I consider a minimum. For travel collapsing size, I measured my tripod bag, knowing that I'd be stowing it in there. I took some PVC tubing from the local hardware store and glued an end cap to one and and friction-fit another to the other end, with a bit of case foam glued inside either end. I think it's a little over three feet, but certainly less than four.
