Last month we auctioned a TVT-8 Tobin Video Transfer machine on Ebay, largely for the value as advertising.
We have just heard from a runner-up bidder that he has received a fake Second Chance Offer that appeared to be from Ebay, offering one of our machines. It looks genuine, claims to be a Safe Harbor Guaranteed Transaction, says that a lot of money is on deposit from us as a surety to cover any problems, and that the money must be sent by Western Union to someone identified as Michael Barlog in London, UK.
This is clearly a criminal attempt to defraud someone out of about $3000. Once a crook gets cash from Western Union you have somewhere between zero and no chance to get it back.
Anyone else who gets such an offer should forward it to email@example.com who claim, at least, that they will notify the authorities, etc. While most internet users are too smart to fall for this, a lot of people do not speak good English or are babe in the woods innocents when it comes to the devious ways of internet scammers, so I am concerned.
Any bona fide offer from us will be from one of our actual email addresses, and will request that money be sent to us in Spokane Valley, WA, USA and not to someone in England, Nigeria, Indonesia etc. Any question about whether something is genuine, email me at firstname.lastname@example.org or phone USA (509) 922-7841.
