Ten nominees have been chosen in the two
television categories of the American Society of Cinematographers (ASC)
annual competition. The winners will be announced at the 20th Annual ASC
Outstanding Achievement Awards celebration here on February 26, at the Hyatt
Regency Century Plaza.

Vying for top honors in the TV movie/miniseries/pilot category are Alan Caso,
ASC for INTO THE WEST/"Wheel to the Stars" (TNT); Thomas A. Del Ruth, ASC for
CODE BREAKERS (ESPN); Robbie Greenberg, ASC for WARM SPRINGS (HBO); Jan
Kiesser, ASC, CSC for REEFER MADNESS (Showtime); and Bill Roe, ASC for FAITH
OF MY FATHERS (A&E).

Nominees in the category for best single episode of a regular series include
John Aronson for "Freefall"/WITHOUT A TRACE (CBS); Nathan Hope for "Who Shot
Sherlock?"/CSI: CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION (CBS); Jeffrey Jur, ASC for "Los
Moscos"/CARNIVALE (HBO); John C. Newby, ASC for "Everything Old is You
Again"/LAS VEGAS (NBC); and Glen Winter, CSC for "Sacred"/SMALLVILLE (The
WB).

"Our members were impressed by the artful cinematography they saw in a
diverse range of narrative stories," says Russ Alsobrook, ASC, who chairs the
organization's Awards Committee. "In their judgment these 10 finalists set
the standard for artistic achievement in a very competitive field. They
created images that established a sense of place and time while successfully
augmenting the emotional content of the stories and performances by the
actors."

This is the 10th ASC Outstanding Achievement Award nomination for Del Ruth,
the seventh for Roe, fourth for Greenberg, third for Caso and Jur, and second
for Aronson and Hope. Del Ruth has claimed top honors four times, Greenberg
three times, and Jur and Roe twice each. Hope won last year for CSI. These
are the first nominations for Kiesser, Newby and Winter.

ASC President Richard Crudo notes that this is one of the only competitions
for television cinematography where peers select both the nominees and
winners.

"We're celebrating an art that doesn't receive the attention it deserves," he
says. "The work of the cinematographer is generally designed to be
transparent. That's why it's so important that this award is bestowed by
one's colleagues."
