black and white negative

quick question about overexposing the negative. I know in color negative, overexposing gives you a thicker negative and more information...is there a difference or any consideration if you overexpose black and white film.

You'll still get a thicker negative. And you will probably find the contrast goes up more than in colour, because the charactereistic curve of the b/w neg tends to have a longer toe.

This can mean that you get less of the tonal range of the shot in your print or possibly you'll have to fight to get as much onto tape.

The main difference is that overexposing color neg tends to make the grain tighter, whereas overexposing b&w negative can actually increase graininess, because of the increase in silver that develops, or at least that's what I've heard -- haven't really noticed that much myself. I like to shoot b&w neg a little overexposed and print down mainly for better blacks in the print.
