I saw some macro work today where the DOP used trace paper to create fake DOF and it looked great. I also remember seeing something similar done on "Eternal Sunshine"

any ideas, suggestions and recommendations for use?

thanks

You mean more like using Hampshire Frost or something like a net / scrim on a frame to soften the background. Tracing paper, though thin, is still opaque and white.

Rolfe,

A large net stretched accross the background will work well.
