hi,

Bolex EL's have a 1:1 shaft of the side similar to the wind-up Bolex's (tho it is a key slot type only on one side)

If a mount were made could a motor be coupled to this shaft so I could run the shutter with it ? could I disconnect the internal motor in any way to make it run with less resistance (again similar to the mot/0 switch on a wind-up) ?

if not, what was the shaft added for in the first instance ? I can think of a couple of applications myself, but they use the shaft as an output device so we can have functionality that was added to the mkIII anyway...

I understand you could simply use a remote shutter/timer/relay circuit set up, but then you only have control of the shutter close time and not the shutter open time (which is fixed at 1/30th or so) .

Well, I got the EL manual recently -

in the parts spec it is listed as the '1:1 spindle' - however, there is no further mention of its use ...

Was it added so as to future proof the EL in case of any new ideas the engineers or users thought up ?

A sort of legacy of the windups ?

anyone else interested ???

Nick
