David Cole, prominent digital intermediate
colorist, has joined LaserPacific Media Corporation. Cole is relocating to
Hollywood from Australia, where his credits included the 2001 run-away hit THE
LORD OF THE RINGS: THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING, in which he collaborated with
director Peter Jackson and cinematographer Andrew Lesnie (ASC, ACS). Most
recently, Cole was the supervising and lead colorist during digital
intermediate (DI) postproduction of KING KONG at director Peter Jackson's Weta
Digital Ltd. in New Zealand in 2005. Cole played an integral role in the
creation of the digital intermediate infrastructure at Weta, including
developing the workflow process and overseeing the software development and
look management.

"David Cole is a talented colorist and a great addition to our team," says
LaserPacific President Leon Silverman. "He carries a tremendous amount of
experience - from his reputation in the creative community and his strength in
the discipline of high-end feature film post-production."

Cole played a key role in the creation of the Australian digital
intermediate industry while employed as a colorist and technical director at
Digital Pictures. In addition to his work on KING KONG and FELLOWSHIP, his
credits include BOOGEYMAN, SPOOKED, ONE PERFECT DAY, and GHOST SHIP. His first
DI project at LaserPacific is the independent feature SOUTHLAND TALES. The
film was directed by Richard Kelly, and Steven Poster, ASC was the
cinematographer.

"You can do things in DI that weren't practical before because computers and
new software allow you to move more information through the pipeline faster,"
Cole says. "Cinematographers are learning to use these new tools to get more
filmic looks. I believe that during the next couple of years, DI will become
the norm because it is becoming more affordable for lower budget films."

Silverman adds, "LaserPacific has a 25-year legacy of innovation. We have
developed an extremely efficient digital intermediate pipeline that draws on
Kodak's unique imaging and color science, and delivers consistent fidelity to
both film and digital screens. With next generation storage and network
infrastructure, our facility is designed to provide maximum creative
flexibility. Our talented and dedicated staff is committed to helping our
customers realize their visions."
