Anybody know how an eyepiece extension works? I mean, is it just a tube with a magnifier glass inside? If so, why are they so expensive, specially the ones for HD cameras?

It's not only one magnifier glass inside, it's an whole optical way. Problem is to solve vignetting and cat eye effect as well as be as losless as possible considering the light.
