Hi guys,

I'm going to be filming some timelapse shots on S16mm soon. Some
will be shot at night and some during the day. The location is London, UK.

What I'm trying to achieve with the night shots is mainly focusing
on traffic head and tail streaks moving very fast on heavy traffic
roads.

During day shots I'm mainly after nice shots of London skyline and
focusing mainly on clouds moving. I have an intervalometer
available to achieve this. Won't be using it for the night shots, as I'm
planning on filming these at slow speed.

I'll be using an Aaton XTR with fixed shutter angle.

My question is basically which locations would you guys choose for
shots like these. I have some in mind but would like some input
from you guys if you have done something similar in London.

Also, if you guys have some tricks for timelapse filming (on S16mm),
it would also be appreciated.

Thanks

I like to get on the roof of high buildings to shoot skylines. You obviously have to get the production to get permission and take safety harness up with you and tie everthing down. Heavy duty legs and head an advantage, to minimise any wind shake. The M40 or is it A40 is an elevated motorway which runs through the centre of West London and can be good for traffic timelapse. Have a look from Trellick Towers in Westbourne Grove. In daytime I tend to cover the camera with black bolton to stop all light leaks, I once had a light leak on a XTR Prod coming from part of the Video Assist relay which was hard to find, so better be safe.
Also, obviously, use a pola to bring out the clouds. Nick

There is a hotel just behind the London Eye - there are some rooms on the Thames side - 3rd or 4th floor - which have the best view of the eye onto westminster - here is the shot - hope this helps.

Also by the MI5 building looking at the Westminster -
Highgate Hill looking into London
Muswell Hill looking into London

enjoy

Thanks
