Can a Bolex H-16 Sidefinder be used as a director's loop for 35 mm cameras or is it something that works only for 16's. I know Mitchell Sidefinders are also used as Director's loops, is there any significant differences to justify the tremendious void between the prices of the two units? Thanks

I don't see why, not as long as you convert the focal length of the side-finder to the format you are using. For instance a 25mm lens in 16mm film would be a 50mm lens in 35mm film. In the matter of say a Canon XL1 or Panasonic DVX-100 or other prosumer video camera with 1/3" chips, the conversion factor for 35mm would be 7.2x. So the DVX-100's 4.5 to 45mm lens in 35mm equivalent would be 32.5 to 325mm. You would then halve that to get the 16mm equivalent. I think that in the end a side-finder could become limiting depending on the format you are using.

Hope this helps and isn't too confusing.

It makes perfect sence, however I was planing to use this with a 35mm camera so I would need to figure out the conversions. Are there any cofirmations on this idea?
