I'm trying to convince producers to move a project to Los Angeles to take advantage of a great LA location (and a few other practical reasons.)

What would be ideal:

> A least a 30'x30' area
> Roof-top itself provides some sort of character--perhaps old raised elements that are visually interesting
> View off of the roof top is more than a black hole (night shoot) The director mentioned "lots of city lights" in the background
> Does not cost a fortune (of course)
> Would let us shoot all night--set up as sun is setting and wrap as sun rises.

The project shoots on a weekday in mid-June. Does anyone have experience with such locations or have more ideas on where to keep looking?

Thanks,

I'd look into some of the industrial (now residential) lofts east of Downtown.

There are some views from the rooftop of Linda Vista Hospital in Boyle Heights, an abandoned location used for movie shoots. Unfortunately the downtown skyline is partially obscured by palm trees, and the rest of the angles look at East L.A.

The rooftop parking area of some tall parking garages in the city have good views.

I bet the rooftop of County-USC Hospital has a good view of the downtown skyline at sunset. There is a high school on a hilltop in that neighborhood with some potentially good views (Lincoln Heights?)

There are probably some buildings along the northside of the Valley, like near Tujunga or Eagle Rock, that might have a good view of city lights at night. Basically look for high ground in the city.

I've shot on roofs in Korea town and downtown that have good views, but I can't give you any info on who to contact about them. If I were you I'd have a location scout send you some pictures of available locations.
