can anyone tell me why the color viewfinder on the f900 i am using has a darker portion of about 40 percent all the way around the edge of the frame? it's not showing on the monitors, so i'm assuming it is the viewfinder. the shape (curved edges, straight on top and bottom) of this dimmer area pops up in the viewfinder when the camera is first powered on. it looks like the black area that momentarily appears when turning on an old television set... is the crt damaged? thanks everyone

If I had this problem I'd be calling the rental house and asking for a replacement. I can't tell you why it's happening, but it shouldn't be.

would you judge exposure by a good color viewfinder?

Not generally, I wouldn't. But in some situations I guess I would. But in a normal production environment I wouldn't.
