Is it possible to convert footage shot with the Sony HVR A1U shot at HDV 30i to HDV 25i by connecting to Sony HVR Z1U through 4-pin firewire and recording like tape to tape? Then the material would be ready for ingesting uncompressed HDV 1080 25i in FCP. Or, am I dreaming?

FCP will do the conversion for you. Insert the shots into your 25fps timeline and render it. I've done it a few times. It doesn't look great but it works.
