Can the hideous handgrip on the Fujica ZC 1000 be taken off?

I think it can but if I'm not mistaken, some of the electronics are inside the grip itself so you would have to then rehouse the electronics.

does the zc1000 have a 1:1 shaft? and if so does it rotate clockwise in use?

Yes it can. The handle houses the extra batteries (There are two seperate compartments of batteries) for the 72fps feature. So without the handle the only thing that is affected is the ability to do 72 fps.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Fuji announce a few months ago that they are discontinuing the film
that this camera uses?

Single 8 has important features I want, steady film and full rewind capabilities, there is a reloadable cartridge avalible and some nice filmstocks (not made by Fuji).
