Recently I shot a tv commercial using the HDV Sony Z1, We transfer to SD the rough material and it seems darker in the black zones than the image seen at the video monitor at location. Then we transfer all HD to the computer using HD conversion, and the problem solved a little. What could happen, and how I can control this in next ocassion?

Thanks

Was your field monitor an NTSC monitor accepting a down converted signal? That may be the problem, or the monitor was not calibrated properly? HDV is 4_2_0 GOP compression, NTSC is 4_1_1 so going between the two may affect the color space. Interesting -- I'll have to look at some of my own down converted footage, although I have not experienced a problem like this in the past.

Thanks for your information, I will check with the post house about the monitor calibration.

The monitor that looks dark is probably adjusting for 7.5IRE on the inputs. Most us televisions do. All DV & HD footage is 0IRE. Make sure your studio tv/monitor is calibrated.
