Hi

i have a little problem on ARRICAM.is there anybody who knows how to make the ARRICAM(ARRI LT/ST, III,IIc) non-syn? ( meaning that when the shutter opens, the film is still moving). Thank you very much.

On the Arricam you can add a Time Shift box that will throw the shutter out of sync in increments simply by turning a knob. On the 435 this can also be done (ES and Advanced models only, unless they have the upgraded chip). In the Arri II's and III's that has to be done by manually adjusting the shutter out of sync with the camer by a camera technician, which is quite involved.

Speaking of which, how do you know how much you'd want to turn the knob on the Timing Shift Box? Because it seems that you wouldn't have any way of seeing the effect during the filming, since the viewfinder image will be undistorted regardless. I guess you have to test it copiously first or just be fine with whatever you get on the day?

Yes, you have to test it.

I'm going to stick a test I did up on my website soon for everyone to see, I just need to digitze the footage first...
