I thought I read somewhere where you could purchase a sample kit that contained every gel available in 4x4 or some such. Could someone point me in the right direction? Thank you!

Both Lee and Rosco make master sets. My Lee Master Edition has gel sheets 5-3/8" X 9-5/8". They're actually big enough to go in a Source Four gel frame for tests. I saw the Rosco book in NYC at the Broadway Lighting Master Classes, to my memory it's about the same size as the Lee. If I remember correctly I paid somewhere around $110 for my Lee set, not cheap but given its size, well worth it.
