Hi,

I'm a college student starting out in Telecommunications. I've got a lot of good ideas and I know a bit about what goes into films, but I have very little experience with cameras/camcorders.

I'm looking to buy a cheap MiniDV camera in the $250-300 range. I'm considering the Canon line as they seem to be getting good reviews.

I'm buying a camcorder to get acquainted with how to shoot short films and also how to edit on my Mac.

Any suggestions in general or about which camcorder to buy would be very appreciated.

Anything really, maybe look into one of the Canon ZR series.

Hmm...I looked at those. I'm finding some great deals on Canon Eluras on eBay; a bundle with one and a tripod is about $310 new...so I might get that.

Thanks

If you're just starting out, even if you've been shooting for awhile, you probably don't want to buy a used camcorder off eBay or anywhere else. Ask yourself; "why is this guy selling so cheap?" It's probably being sold because it has some weird little problem that the original owner can't fix cheaply. Do yourself a favor and buy a new one; at least you will have a warranty if it poops out on you.
