i always hear david devlin, ian kincaid, and mike bauman as the best gaffers.
chris centrella, jim kwiytkowski, and herb ault.

any thoughts?

Well I think my gaffer is the best ;) (although he is leaving the business, so I need to find a new best gaffer).

My experiences with Dave Devlin have all been really positive (not gaffing for me, just dealing with him and Lumapanel and random advice), and he works on some of the biggest shows you can do.

All those guys you list are probably all top notch, never had any experience with them, so I can't say on any personal level. And a lot of what makes a gaffer the "best" is personal, some people work better with certain people.
