I'm wanting to shoot a little short with my s800.

There is a little bit of dialogue involved. If I shot at 24fps with audio on dat how long would synch last roughly?

How well does the 800 professional hold synch at 25fps? Is it chrystal synch?

cheers

Probably as well as the S800 holds 24fps, which I'm guessing would be only a few seconds. Neither is crystal sunc. You can have either of them modified for crystal sync by The Film Group for around $500.

I know that the 6080 holds pretty good at 25fps. There's virtually no shift when filming a PAL TV, although it's not crystal sync. Don't know if the electronics in the S800 are as precise. I'd shoot a test with two claps... or you could analyze the frequency of the pulse sync, or the flash contact...

I have an S800 and it synchs quite well--lasts over a minute. So does my Moviflex. I wouldn't waste any money--certainly not $500--on crystal synching any super8 camera. I'd rather spend that money on carts, shoot carefully and fix any synch issues in post.
All the best,
Victor

Two claps help to fix shift in post, clap at the start the and just before you stop... Some cameras run pretty sync eaven without crystal... rumors say that the Canon 1014XL-S CANOSOUND runs pretty sync @ 24fps as well...

If you have a cam with puls sync out (like some nizos) an your recording device is stereo you can record the puls on the second channel as reference...
