I do believe that this is a question for the lighting forum, even though it arises because I saw
"The Great White Hype" (1995) on cable last night. They often cut to an ENG crew and on top
of the video camera was what looked like a Litepanel at first. When I could look at it again I saw
that it was diffusion (obviously not L.E.D.s) but it had that size and rectangular shape of a Litepanel.

I've seen a fair amount of on- camera lights with diffusion but they've been much smaller and square.

I would guess that this was 6" to 8" wide and 4" tall and seemed to have some black fabric around
it trailing back to the light source. It was mounted right where a light typically goes on an ENG camera
and didn't seem to be cumbersome at all yet I've never seen anything like it on an ENG camera.

It looked soft enough that I could definitely consider using it on a short with a handheld camera for
some nice fill, although maybe at a lower wattage than was used in the film.

Would anybody know?

Probably a small light with a Chimera softbox diffuser on it.
