The lens on my super 8 read AGFA VARIOSTAR 1:1,8/6-60.
Does this mean that the largest the aperture opens up to is 1.8?

YES 1.8 is the wide open aperture.

Yes, and your camera has a 6-60 zoom range, aka 10-1 zoom range. I didn't know the AGFA's went as wide as 6mm, that is impressive.
