I am getting ready to build some 12volt batteries for my Konvas 2m motor and I'm planning on wiring them all up with 4 pin XLR plugs. I was just wondering what the normal configuration is for 4 pin XLR. Which pins are negative or positive? I've heard 1 is positive, 4 is negative, and 2 and 3 are empty. Is that correct?

If your Konvas have 17EP-16 APK motor, you must be very careful with polarity of battery.
The many 17EP-16 APK motor burn down after connect battery with reversal polarity.

About 4 pin XLR connetor, I have information :
pin #1 ( - ), negative battery
pin #2 ( +) 16 v battery
pin #3 ( + ) 24 v battery
pin #4 ( + ) 12 v battery.

If you will use of 12 v battery, you need use pin 1 ( - ) negative , pin 4 ( + ) positive battery, pin 2, 3 not use.
