Is there an easy way for working out increments of f-stops in thirds without memorising them?

Is there a general rule of thumb for working them out? at the moment i carry around a notebook with how f-stops increase by full and third values as a reference.

What do you mean, exactly? What do you have written down on your notebook?

FULL STOP 1.0-----1.4-----2.0

1/3 STOP 1.1-----1.6-----2.2

2/3 STOP 1.3-----1.8-----2.5

and so on. I like meter the latitude in my images but i can never remember my f-stops
