Has anyone used a Fogal 110 to soften up a sharp lens when shooting on 35mm, and what would be the reason for it? Can you use a relatively softer lens (given that you create the certain circle of confusion) that you are going for? Or is it more for a different quality, aesthetic quality that you're going for.

Definitely an asthetic quality. Nets cast a particular type of diffusion, rather than just a "soft lens."
