An unreliable source mentioned to me the other the day that Panasonic was currently developing a "big brother" to the HVX200. Can anybody confirm this rumor? And if so, where can I find the specs, because I have not yet found anything on this subject.

Yes its true. Its a 2/3" 5 slot P2 camcorder. Essentially everything an HVX can do, in 2/3" formfactor. Probably going to be VERY nice.

Hi,

Wouldn't that just be a P2 version of the Varicam, which has been on the cards for some time?

I think everyone's probably thinking of the HPX2000, a P2 version of the HDX900. It's on the Panasonic site. Doesn't have all the variable frame rates of the HVX/Varicam, though.

There's also the HPX500, which is 2/3" but uses a lower resolution chip than the Varicam/HDX900/HPX2000. I advised against it because I think it muddies the waters of the product line.
