I recently bought a mint condition Canon Auto Zoom 814 on ebay (pre-electronic). I simply cannot figure out how to focus the lens. The only time I can bring the image into focus is when im approaching full telephoto at something far away or partial telephoto at something up close. I cannot keep the lens at wideangle and focus at something more than about 1 foot away. For example, if I zoom in and focus on something across the room, the image becomes increasingly unfocused as I zoom out. In other words, I can't shoot a landscape at wideangle even with the focus ring set to infinity.

What is going on? Is my lens screwed up?

I grew up with the VHS camcorder; this is my first experience with super-8 film. I appologize if this question seems ridiculous...

Lens reads as follows:
CANON ZOOM LENS C-8
7.5-60mm 1:1.4 #218021

Thanks for any advice!

The problem could be one of so many things:
Lens calibration/collimation.
Loose interior gp4 element.
Viewfinder optics.
Prism optics.
I could look at it for you , no charge.
Cheers, Bernie

The viewfinder might not be set to the operators eye. Does the camera have a macro mode? That could cause the camera to only focus at one spot on the lens.
