Hi,
(1) Can I do white balance in this HD camera or preset it to tungsten/daylight?
(2) How do I get the approximate ASA for this camera?
Thnx

Yes, white balance is set through a built in filterwheel on the camera and through an electronic balance like any ENG camera. preset balance or electronic balance likewise are set through standard switches (A-B-PRE).

ASA I am not sure of, but you can find it precisely with a lightmeter and a waveform monitor. Search these forums theres a post with the procedure explained. Keep in mind changes to the set-up can affect the asa value. Most cameras I have used are between 250-400 on tungsten setting, most landing at 320.

Most people generally rate the Varicam at about 640 ISO. White balance can be set easily using a white balance detection switch on the front of the camera. The preset can be switched from tungsten to daylight but note that the filter wheel is marked in offsets based on tungsten balancing. If you want to shift the camera's white balance, you can set an offset in the menus. This is a nice feature if you perhaps want a consistently slightly warm look, where you set the camera to shift the image a couple hundred degrees warm relative to a white balance detection.
