Hi,

I am just about to go into 3-4 week preproduction phase for my first, very low budget feature which we will hopefully shoot on an F900 for around 6 weeks. As there are so many experienced DPs on this forum I thought it would be very interesting to see how you all prepare when taking on a feature length projects.

Probably many of you prepare in very similar manners in some respects but I am sure there are also many differences as well considering we are all individuals with different methodologies!

Also, any pointers would be really helpful!

Thanks a lot!

Morgan, congrats on the gig!

As for your question, I'm not a features DP, but if I were, I'd guess that I'd probably be looking a lot at lenses, post-production routes, and acceptable latitude.

Well, there's all the standard prep jobs -- scout locations, go through the script scene-by-scene with the director, submit equipment lists, hire crew people, shoot any tests, etc.

Then there's the more personal ways of prepping, like going through art books and stacks of DVD's looking for ideas & inspiration...
