Bill Butler ASC is perhaps the most influential cinematographer to my style, I'm really fond of the guy and would like to write him a letter.

Does anyone know how I would go about contacting this brilliant guy?

Kimd Regards - Matthew Buick. :)

Ah, I thought letters to the ASC would just be incinerated.

Well, I really like Bill Butler's style, he's becoming a real influence, I really like the infectious passion he has for this artform, I want to contact him, there's really not much else to say.

Glad to see that you have already found a style at your tender age, Matthew. ;)

You can send a fan letter to him through the ASC.

I would take the time to dig up and read all the American Cinematographer articles written about his work over the decades - there were articles on Jaws, Grease, some of the Rocky sequels, etc. Plus read the interview with him in the book "Masters of Light".

Thanks, David.

I was going to by that book anyways. You have all the issues of American Cinematographer, could you possibly tell me the exact months and issue numbers.

If it's too much trouble please don't bother. ;)

A partial list:

American Cinematographer:
Mar. 1975 - On Location with "Jaws"
Feb. 1977 - Interview w/ Butler (partly covering "Jaws")
Aug. 1978 - Grease
Feb. 1986 - Rocky 4

I know there was a short article on "Frailty" a few years ago, and somewhere (maybe ICG Magazine?) an article on "Anaconda".

Here I was trying to ask a perfectly adult question 'How can I contact Bill Butler ASC' and here you three are jumping on the band wagon acting like pathetic little schoolgirls mercilessly trying to take chunks out of me!!

Is it because I have had a spammy past, which I am now rectifying. Or is because I am a minor???

Max and Karl. My classmates haven't been so pathectly childish in the sense of twisting my words to make me sound like a fu**ing pervert since I was thirteen...YOU HEAR THAT...THIRTEEN!!!!!!!!

Why do I even bother struggling not to become eccentric again if I have no reason to show the world that I am a responsible near-adult because the peoople who are the adults are acting like fu**ing children!?!?!?

Moderator's Note - Some of the posts above this have been deleted, they are not necessary. I am only leaving this up because I kind of agree with him this time. He was asking a completely innocent question, no reason to turn this into a big war.

I honestly wasn't being mean or trying to upset you Matthew, just having a bit of fun. In fact I find it very impressive that at your age you're already interested in cinematogrpahy.

I often find some people on this forum to be bullies.
