Steady test on a 16BL

Hello people,

I've just purchased a very nice BLEQ with a 'flat' motor and Zeiss 12.5 to 75 zoom (T2).

I want to do a steady test on it, as there is a small amount of end-play in the reg pin.

What's the best way to back-wind? Any tips on effective steady test procedure? I've got 100 feet of core-wound 250D, but don't want to use it all on the steady test -- there are other things I want to test with this roll.
