LDS is "lens data system" and is a Zeiss/Arri product:
http://www.arri.com/...hnology_lds.htm

Cooke calls their version " /i " for "intelligent" lenses:
http://www.cookeoptics.com/

Basically the lens sends out data regarding focus and aperture and a readout can be designed to tell you depth of field range, etc.

The pre-CookeS4 series (called S2/S3 sometimes) are somewhat softer, lower-contrast lenses. And physically smaller.

The UltraPrimes are T/2 Zeiss lenses, similar to the T/2 Cooke S4's and the T/2 Panavision Primos (Leitz glass). There are differences in look, again the Cookes are a little less contrasty, less "snappy", which some people prefer for shooting faces. I've noticed that Cooke S4's tend to get a faint reddish chromatic fringe around bright flares and glints, like off of automobiles in the sun. The Zeiss "look" is fairly snappy, contrasty.
