Hello all,
I am soon to film on a DSR 500 and looking for every way possible to make the image look the most filmlike. Any ideas?
Can it shoot in progressive and are the lenses interchangable?
..?

Hi,

Very broad question so very broad answer; feel free to ask supplementary questions.

Standard video approach. Turn down detail and edge enhancement, reduce saturation slightly. If you will grade the image, turn off black compression and use other image processing settings to minimise the contrast in the image. If not, consider turning the black level up to create deeper, darker shadows.

But really, creating nice images begins in front of the lens. Consider:

- Production design; choice of colours, lighting; what's in the background; use of depth-of-field; costume
- Lighting; colour and colour temperature, hardness, direction
- Filtration; colour, graduation, softening.

Use of grad filters and/or polarisation to darken over-bright skies is extremely helpful in video. I hesitate to recommend the use of promist or other image-softening filters on an SD camera, but you might like to look at extremely subtle grades of black promist.

No. The DSR-450, which sorta-kinda replaces the 500 and 570, will. It is probably negligibly more expensive to rent. Consider using a DSR-450.

Absolutely; you'll need to make a sensible choice as to which you will want to use.
