Abel Cine Tech and Zacuto USA announced today that they have partnered to bring Zacuto?s line of camera rigging products to a wider market. Both companies specialize in the sales and rental of HD camera packages, with a focus on providing a high level of support to filmmakers. As part of this mission, Abel Cine Tech continually seeks out the best new technology and innovative products that will become the next indispensable tools of the trade.
?We are excited about the addition of Zacuto USA?s products to our equipment line,? said Pete Abel, President of Abel Cine Tech. ?We feel that Zacuto?s design philosophy is a perfect fit with Abel and our production-savvy client base. These components will be invaluable to our customers, because they provide real solutions to everyday production challenges shooters face.?
Zacuto, which has been established as the premier camera rental company in the Chicago area since 1999, began manufacturing their own line of modular camera rigging equipment in 2005. ?When the HD cameras got smaller, we found there was nowhere to mount things like monitors, hard drives and wireless units. We also noticed they weren?t very well balanced in either tripod or handheld mode,? explained Steve Weiss, Co-Designer and Head of Sales at Zacuto. ?We started by creating the products we needed for our rental department and soon found that shooters wanted to purchase the accessories we had made,? he stated.
Weiss, a film/video director, and Jens Bogehegn, a DP, are the designers of the Zacuto accessories. They used their 20 years of production experience to develop their designs. ?We often felt that there was a lot of room for improvement in the gear that was out there,? said Jens Bogehegn, Co-Designer and Head of Operations at Zacuto. ?This was our opportunity to rethink accessories from a DP?s point of view, so our equipment is radically different, quick-releasable and universal between cameras,? he continued.
The Zacuto product line is rugged and highly versatile. Products can be combined in virtually endless combinations to suit the precise needs and preferences of each shooter. All the components are designed to work interchangeably for quick assembly and custom configuration.
A key feature of the Zacuto line is the ?Z-Release? system, which offers quick-release functionality. Components can be assembled, locked securely in place and disassembled with the flip of a lever.
The Zacuto system is designed to be universally compatible with all camera models. Accessories can be swapped between Panasonic, Sony, Canon and JVC cameras, as well as other camcorders ranging in size from the compact handheld models to the larger 2/3? ENG shoulder-mount units.
Another advantage of the Zacuto system is that it improves the ergonomics of small camcorders by providing adequate counterbalance. With Zacuto, on-board accessories are rigged so that they are conveniently located for the operator and simultaneously create the feel and handling characteristics of a full sized, shoulder-mount camera.
The Zacuto product line is always expanding and evolving, with new products being added monthly. Zacuto products are available for sale from the exclusive reseller Abel Cine Tech or directly from the manufacturer. Abel Cine Tech has offices in New York City and Burbank, CA; Zacuto USA is located in Chicago. All three locations feature Zacuto rigging stations, where DPs are welcome to come in with their cameras and try the accessories for themselves by assembling a camera rig.
All Zacuto products are made in the USA and carry a lifetime warranty.
