I am getting into this on my ol' 2C. Shoot and rewind with lens cap on and then shoot again

I am looking for advice and ideas on the metering

The 2 methods I use are

Meter both scenes correctly - this leads to over exposure in cross over areas
Meter both 1 or 1.5 stops below - this leads to a darker image but with less burn

Any advice or ideas

thanks
