At Cinematography.com you will find ASC members chatting with film school freshmen. Motion picture industry equipment manufacturers turn to Cinematography.com's member base for suggestions and feedback when designing new products. For over a decade Cinematography.com has been a place where aspiring filmmakers learn about cinematography, and where experienced cinematographers have generously shared their knowledge.
Tim Tyler founded The Camera Department Page in 1995, a simple website with resource links, motion picture camera document downloads, and industry news. Soon thereafter a community forum was added. Cinematographers, assistants, operators and industry reps worldwide began sharing information in a way that had never been possible before.
In January of 1998, the popular forum was reworked to better serve its users. Fully threaded messaging, email notification of new posts, and a friendlier user interface were implemented to satisfy the Forum's growing activity level. The site was overhauled once again in 2004 with a fresh design and many new features that continue to make cinematography.com the finest community of professional motion picture camera people online.
Tim continues to host and manage the site with the help of a small team of volunteer moderators dedicated to keeping the forum a rich, enjoyable resource for filmmakers worldwide.
Today cinematography.com boasts over 30,000 registered members, including students and professionals, from Boston to Bangladesh. Thousands of unique visitors click their way through cinematography.com every day. And the numbers are rising. (Alexa.com stats show that roughly 40% of our visitors are from the United States, 12% from Australia, 12% from India, 8% Canada, and the remaining 30% from everywhere else.)
