Just saw it, and being new to cinematography, I am not completely familiar with the color negative film stocks, and so I am always a little scared push the latitude and underexpose faces. With this movie, Savides let the dark skin of the actors be dark, and at times so dark that the features were only just discernable. I really liked this style, and it gave me some courage to push the latitude of stocks more!

Yeah, I was surprised how low key and high contrast it was. As usual, the contrast was lowered in the trailers, but the final product is much darker.

I really enjoyed the film. I got a little scared toward the end that we were going to have a Tony Scott style shoot out, as it seem the Scott brothers tend to share styles from time to time.

But the film was very well done. Washington and Crowe were both great. When they finally meet, although brief, it's golden (not as good as the DeNiro & Pacino meeting of course)
