Hooper or Spielberg: Who directed Poltergeist?

Just wondering..I think it was Spielberg, the movie is just too big of a hit.

It was both. Hooper directed the actors, but Spielberg was very hands-on when they were shooting action or scare scenes, etc. though he didn't take-over as director, just apparently was involved in the decision-making with Hooper on set, sort of an over-involved producer. I think he also went off and directed some of the second-unit inserts and whatnot. But technically, Hooper was the director.

They should put out a "Making of.." book like they did with BladeRunner. I think alot of filmmakers and fans would read it. Or would it involved just too much to get made.
