With the venue and dates for Showlight 2009 confirmed as the new BBC studios in Glasgow from the 17th to the 19th of May 2009, the committee, chaired by Ian Dow, would like to invite proposals from directors of photography to present aspects of their work that they feel they?d like to share with fellow lighting practitioners.
Showlight is a unique event that is staged every four years in a different European city and focuses on the art and practice of lighting in all domains. Previous cinematographers who have presented papers have included Freddie Francis BSC,(who showed excerpts from ?Sons and Lovers?) Sue Gibson BSC, (who talked about and demonstrated the use of the Arri D20) Walter Lassally BSC (who followed the evolution of film lighting styles since the start of cinema) Tristan Oliver (who showed and talked about his work on ??Chicken Run?) and Roger Simonsz GBCT (who took the delegates through the various uses of colour in cinematography) as well as a host of papers on different aspects of lighting.
Showlight presents a wonderful opportunity for cross fertilisation from the different worlds of lighting (film, tv, theatre, architecture, event, music etc.) and it is hoped that the event in Glasgow will attract a strong interest from cinematographers worldwide. For those wishing to present a paper please contact firstname.lastname@example.org A further notice about registration will appear here for those wishing to attend as delegate.
