I got a new Motorola V9 Razr2 cellphone last week. I'm somewhat amazed by the latitude its camera (2 megapixels) seems to be capable of. I took a photo of my cats sitting in a sunlit window with the V9. The detail in the sunlit yard isn't completely blown out -and- you can see detail in the silhouetted cats. I wish I had thought to grab my spotmeter and check the ratio between those areas. The camera has a bit of creative control, I used its -2 exposure and fixed sunlight white balance settings.

The sharp eyed among you will notice my left hand flagging the lower half of the photo. Left to right the cats are: Mischa, 9 mo. male Manx; Moseley, 10 year old male orange tabby; Issac, 3 year old male Birman.

Sorry to interrupt your cat talks here, folks ;) , but in line with what can be done with cell phones:

During IFA 2007, the German photographer Guido Karp was invited (in an obvious marketing excercise, one must state) to showcase some pictures of his portfolio "The Nudes" which he shot using a Sony Ericsson K810i CyberShot mobile phone camera and of which he printed large format photos without any photo correction.

Not a particular adopter of digital still image-taking, I must admit when you throw alot of careful lighthing and throught-through composition into your motives (and avoid outdoor colour images... there, the lack of "sophistication" starts to show), you can achieve remarkable results even with the "simplest" of tools.
