I was talking with an older DOP whose been shooting commercials for 30 plus years, and he was telling me it would be no problem to use 35mm lenses on Super 16 cameras.

But I've heard from some other people it's not a good idea. Can anyone tell me the big problems with this? If I was doing this, I'd be using the sharpest part of the lens... right?

Thanks,

Jase.

It's no problem at all. The only problem I can think of is if your camera isn't properly flocked. That could allow the excessive coverage of the lenses to bounce stray light around inside the camera and perhaps kill your contrast some.

People do it all the time with no problems that I've ever heard of.

yeah thats what I thought. So if I'm buying lenses, it's not a bad idea to get a couple 35mm lenses instead to cover both. Besides cost, is there any advantage to having super 16mm lenses over 35mm lenses for 16mm cameras?
