I think thats the correct term?
Okay so I have a music video coming up in a few months, we are shooting 16mm and theres a scene where a man is walking through a forrest at night with an oil lamp.
I want to look into a dummy lantern, where a small bulb or flame faces the camera and a stronger buld faces the actor away from camera.
And I guess my question is, is that somthing you can buy? I mean it seems to me it would be somthing the art department would make from scratch with the lighting department involved.
I dont know what our budget is yet? But if I where to look into getting one made where would I go?
do you guys know of any good prop stores that specialize in dummy lanterns, or any information at all on how to make one?
thanks.

Lanterns, torches, candles and even microphones are something that is always built for a particular film depending on the choices and needs of the art department, DP, and the electric department. How it will look, what kind of bulb and what kind of power supply all form a sort of tug of way between the three departments.

Have fun and build your own.

Best

Tim

PS Yes I did say microphones. I did a Rolling Stones music video years ago where we put a bulb in an old fashion chrome microphone that was dimmed up and down as mic sang his song.
