Has anybody considered getting a LoJack type of device for their expensive gear? If somebody puts together 5,000 dollars worth of camera gear into a case, would it not be a no brainer to find a spot to hide some kind of small transponder, assuming the cost wasn't too prohibitive?

Has anybody looked into this?

You can get GPS beacons for camping etc. I would assume you could just sneak it into your case no problem.

Do they make them small enough to put inside of a camera?
